Whatever is Pure - February 2005

He Gives Us The Desires Of Our Heart

It's been an exciting day for me, as I've been in living vicariously through a friend in a major lifestyle change decision. She's been offered an incredible rental package in an excellent downtown location, close to work, utilities included, Brazilian hardwood floors, granite counters, dishwasher, microwave, everything brand-new as the space has not yet been lived in. Now, you are probably saying to yourself, what is the catch?

The catch is, its a loft, 645 square feet. Much smaller than her cozy little nook that she has now. She's in an exciting place of making that hard choice..is she truly willing to enter the challenge of downsizing? Is she not willing to give up the cozy little nook she has now? She has exactly one day, 24 hours, to make up her mind.

As she and I discussed the place over lunch and now over the phone, we both came to the conclusion finally. Hey, let's ask God! He can reveal her true heart desires. He just isn't in the business of searching our hearts for hidden sin, no, He knows the desires of our heart, many of them He planted there Himself. God delights when we come to him with all our decisions. He's a good Father. He is always willing to give us advice if we ask for it. I have no idea what her decision will be, neither does she at this point. However, we are praying that the Lord reveals her heart to her.

He knows what we can look as challenges in our lives, new adventures and new frontiers and He knows what would cause nothing but frustration and headaches. I've seen this in my own life. Idle thoughts that I daydreamed about, concerning lifestyle choices, that after asking the Lord to show me what He thought about the idea, I saw new facets and hidden delights or potential downfalls I would have never seen without asking Him for His view.

Is there some decision you are needing to make that you have been putting off as you just can't make up your mind? Ask the One who made your mind in the first place to search your heart to show you what would be best for you. Include Him in the little decisions you make daily and be sure He is seated in the place of honour when it comes time for big decisions. You'll be amazed at how much God knows about the practical aspects of our every day life. You'd think He had a vested interest in us and you'd be thinking right. He invested the death of His own son in order that we could sit at the table in fellowship with Him, heart to heart, mind to mind, spirit to spirit.
